Michele Y. Shade-Hinchliffe, OD
Dr. Shade has over 20 years experience in diagnosing and treating general eye disease. She has extensive training and certification in specialty contact lenses and related complications. Specifically orhtokeratology lenses, keratoconus lenses, hybrid contact lenses, bifocal contacts and cosmetic lenses. She also has enhanced training in ocular nutrition, especially in prevention of age-related eye disease and dry eye.
Dr. Shade graduated from Richard Stockton College in 1983 with a Bachelors Degree in biology. She then attended New England College of Optometry, graduating with a Degree in Optometry in 1989. She recieved the Fisons Award for Clinical Excellence. She completed an additional voluntary residency at Lebanon VA Medical Center in Hospital-based optometry and geriatric optometry. She then worked in private practice from 1990 to the present.
Shade Eyecare purchased the current practice in 1994. The practice is the oldest eyecare practice in the town of Pottstown, dating back to the late 1930’s when Dr. Dengler first started seeing patients.
Dr. Shade is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the Bucks-Montgomery Optometric Society. She served as the Treasurer and President for the Bucks – Montgomery Optometric Society, where she was the Young Optometrist for the year in 1999 and Optometrist of the Year in 2002. Dr. Shade has continued to serve on the Bucks-Montgomery Optometric Society board since 1996.
She has also served on the Advisory Panel for Women Excel of the YWCA of Pottstown for 6 years. She organized the annual Women Excel Expo event. She is currently a member.
Dr. Shade grew up in the Pottstown area and has lived here most of her adult life. She enjoys jewelry making and walking in her spare time.
